Amy Thaxton
MA, NCC
Amy is a Provisionally Licensed Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor.
She was born and raised in Elkins, WV. She became interested in the helping profession after seeing her father assist grieving families as a funeral director, seeing how therapy changed the life of a family member who experienced a TBI, all of which led to her own therapy journey.
Amy received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Arts in Counseling from WVU. She has experience in a non-profit community-based setting where she worked with adult clients.
She is licensed in West Virginia
Amy’s primary focus is working with adults (18+).
Some of her clinical interests include anxiety, stress management, depression, borderline personality disorder, recovery, and grief and loss.
Amy draws from theories such as person-centered and humanistic. She also utilizes skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to meet the individual needs of clients.
She believes counseling is not a “one size fits all” process, so she is always trying to see what works best for each person in the counseling process.
Being from a small, rural West Virginia town, making mental health more accessible is a passion of Amy’s.
Outside of work, she enjoys relaxing with her husband and their pets, watching movies (especially horror), exploring, crafting, crocheting, drinking coffee, and hanging out with friends and family.
